Language Module

If you’ve made the brave decision to take a language module, but you are stressing out because you’ve never done the language before, don’t worry! Everything will work out, as long as you are interested in learning the language, and you’re willing to give it a good go. First things first, don’t get lost. Your classes will be in the business building, it’s a 5-minute walk from the main Owen building, opposite the small local Sainsbury’s. You can’t miss it. The classes are usually on the third or fourth floor.
Truthfully, depending on the language, you may have to sacrifice your social life at times. It will be daunting. On my first lesson, I swear I was having palpitations, I kept thinking that I was in way over my head, and at times this lingered on my mind. Despite this, being dedicated and wanting to learn the language for yourself, will get you through it. Just remember, there are many people taking the same language as you, they’re probably feeling the same way.
When I turned up to my first lesson, I got a break down of the module, and when my assessments would be. Panic seemed to overwhelm me, but there were two people I was sat next in different years, that had the same experience I did. It was comforting to see that I wasn’t the only stressed out one there, and by the end of the session I made friends with the two of them, and we helped each other a lot during our Japanese lessons. If after your first session, you are sure it’s not for you, don’t feel stuck. Go to your course leader and ask if you can change your module, trust me if you do it quick enough, they won’t say no!
